Chapter seven

By the time I was about to enter the fifth grade I gave up on everything. I even stopped listening to mother. I remember one day we went to the store to get some things for the house. Mother told me to push the cart and keep my hands on the handle. I disobeyed mother by walking away from the cart. Every time my brothers said something smart to me I would say something smart back. I knew mother would never hit me in front of people but when we got out in to the car it was another story. She made me lay down on the floor in the car while my brothers stomped on for mouthing off at them and my mother. One day my father came home drunk while I was in my father’s room he came in drunk. He started packing his things and started talking about how he couldn’t take it anymore. That’s when I knew him and my mother where splitting up. I was so crushed. Father was my only protection from mother. All I wanted was to be someone again and now with him gone it was all over. Will I ever get out of this alive?

Chapter six

When Father was gone my decided that she wasn’t going to feed me for the next 10 days. Then one day mother called me up to do my chores. She sat a plate of food before me and told me I had 2 minutes to eat it. As soon as I went to go pick up my fork that bitch snatched the plate from the table yelling “Too late!” with an evil smile. But that was not the worst thing she did to me. One day she told me to go to the bathroom to clean. When I got in there she told me to shut the door and not to open it until I was done. In the bucket there was Clorox and Ammonia. I started to see a gray fog cover the top of the bathroom. As I tried to breath I started spitting up everywhere. Then I remembered that there was a vent in the bathroom that came on every few minutes. I crawled over to the vent and sucked in as much air as I could before it went off. Out of all the things mother did to me that was the one I hated the most. All I wanted was to be treated like a human not a slave. Will I ever get out of this mad house?

Chapter five

Today was the day the “accident” happened. I was sitting at the top of the basement stairs listening to “the family” have a nice dinner. After dinner was over mother called me up to clear the table. She then yelled for me to come into the kitchen to do the dishes.
“You have 20 minutes! One minute, one second more, and you go hungry again do you understand!?”
As she yelled at me I started losing interest and things became blurry. Mother picked up a knife and told me that if I didn’t do what she was telling me to do she was going to kill me. This didn’t faze me because she had made this threat three other times this week. Then I saw something fly out of her hand. Then a sharp, searing pain ripped through my stomach. Mother had stabbed me. As soon as I figured this out I blacked out. When I woke up I was laying on the bathroom floor in a puddle of blood. Mother was cleaning and dressing my wound. When mother was done I sat up and blacked out. All I could think was I'm going to die.

Chapter three

I remember one day when my brothers and I where playing upstairs in our room mother came upstairs and started yelling at us. She saw me sitting in the chair and she came at me. As mother was hitting me I was trying to block all of her hits. She grabbed my arm as she fell back. I felt my arm pop and then a sharp pain. Mother walked out the room as if nothing happened. After dinner she told me to sleep on the top bunk which was strange because I never sleep on the top bunk. In the night she woke me up telling me that I fell off the top bunk and she took me to the hospital but the doctors knew what it was no accident. Why did mother treat me this way?

Chapter four

By this time mother had started starving me. I started stealing food from the kids playing outside before school started. Then they started to notice that their snacks and things where gone. When the told on me the principal called my mother and told her of the things I have done wrong. When I got home she beat me till I couldn’t move. I was so hungry that one day I stole food from the store down the street from the school. When I got caught they informed my mother and I got another beating. Finally I found a way I couldn’t get caught…or so I thought. I started to steal frozen hotdogs from the school to stop my hunger. When I got home mother made me go upstairs and throw up in the toilet. Then she made me get it out with a bowl so she could show father. After that she made me eat it all. I don’t understand why she was treating me this way. All I wanted was some food…

Chapter two

The years before mother started abusing me you could say we where the “Brady Bunch” of the 1960s. We lived in a two bedroom home in which you could say was a good neighborhood in our city. My father supported our family as a fireman. I loved it when he would wink at me can called me “Tiger.” My mother was of average size and appearance. I remember one day after dinner she got up and painted the stones leading to the garage and put mats on top of them before it dried. I asked her why she did it and she said it was to surprise my dad. One day mother took us to Chinatown and told us all about the culture. When we came home mother put up lanterns in the kitchen and she cooked us a wonderful Chinese meal. Then when the holidays came everything was great. On Halloween mother would have us go outside to look at the harvest moon. When we got back to our rooms we looked under our pillows and there where match box cars under them. At Christmas time mother would decorate the house and we would get the chance to put the angle on the tree. Just before dawn on Christmas day she would wake us all up to come down and open our presents. One day my mother took my brothers and I to the Golden Gate Park. One day I thought about falling through the gate and I got scared. My mother came over and hugged me and I felt safe.

Chapter one- David

I was working on my chores as mother was screaming at my brothers. I took my hands out of the water for a second and she caught me. I feel a sharp pain in my head and I topple to the floor. She had hit me for having my hands out of the water. I was going to lay there but that would only make her beat me more. I quickly got up and started washing the dishes as she was screaming at me. Then my head hit the counter. Mother had once again hit me. Once I got done with my chores mother let me eat some leftover cereal from one of my bothers bowls. I had to hurry up and eat before she took it away from me. I use to dig the leftover out of the trash but mother found out about it. Once I got done mother took my brother and I to school. Normally she would make me run but I was so late getting done with the dishes she had to drive us to school. When we got to school she let my brother out but made me stay in the car. Mother tells me that she is going to take me to my uncles tomorrow so he can “take care of me”.  After we arrive to the school I run out the car but she calls me back because I left my lunch in the car.  I have to go to the office because I’m so late. The nurse comes out and takes me to her office. After she gets done taking notes about me she sends me off to class where a few moments later they called me back down to the office. When I get into the office I see a few of my teachers and a police officer. After a talk about everything my mother does to me I went with the police officer. I thought I was going to jail but I didn’t say anything. When we got to the police station the officer asked for my phone number and address. I gave it to him and I knew when I got home all hell was going to break loose. When the officer called my house he told my mom I would not be coming home today. We got back into the car and started driving. We drove past a sign that said “THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HIGH WAY IN THE WORLD”. Mr. Smith looks at me and says, “You’re Free.” I was shocked for a second then over whelming joy hit me and a tear ran down my cheek and I whispered “I’m free?”
